Dr. Goodpet Salutes Sergeant Stubby!

Posted by Thomas Shelby on 30th Jun 2015

Often referred to as the most decorated war dog of WWI, Stubby is recognized in the Smithsonian Institute as the only dog to be nominated for rank, as he was promoted to sergeant through combat. The official mascot of the 102 nd Infantry, Stubby participated in seventeen battles on the Western Front while assigned to the 26th (Yankee) Division.

He saved his regiment from mustard gas attacks, found and provided comfort for the wounded, and even detained a German soldier once by holding him down until American soldiers found him. Stubby was a true American hero and, on this 4th of July, we at Dr. Goodpet salute him, along with all the other influential figures who have fought to preserve our great nation.
